Information about the Local Area The Brecon Beacons National Park covers just over 500 square miles with the Black Mountains near Crickhowell and Abergavenny in the East, the Beacons in the Middle and the Black Mountains and Carmarthen Fans in the West. The National Park is the perfect location for many activities. There is pony trekking, fishing, canoeing, hang-gliding, walking and caving. View from Oakview There are many places of interest to visit without having to travel great distances including (links are underlined):- Crickhowell is our closest town and this is a new community web site with lots of local information. Dan-yr-Ogof is the National Show Caves of Wales. They also have a dinosaur park and a dry ski slope. Craig-y-Nos Country Park is a beautiful parkland, ideal for a family picnic. Big Pit and Cefn Coed Colliery Museum give a glimpse into the past of what was one of Wales' biggest industries. Llangors has a Rope Centre and a lake ideal for many types of water sports as well as fishing. A trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway is a spectacular way of admiring some of the scenery. The town of Brecon is an interesting place to visit and is renowned for its Jazz Festival in the month of August. Drover Holidays offers bike hire in the town of Hay-on-Wye, roughly 20 miles away. This is only a small sample of what there is on offer in the locality.
